We’re drawn to songs that go straight to the heart — songs with stories you can follow, melodies you can hum, and feelings that still ring true.

Again and again, residents tell us these songs bring back wonderful memories: a parent singing in the kitchen, music on the radio, a favorite dance, a first love, a family gathering, or simply the feeling of being safe, young, and happy.

Since Patsy and I are both former nurses, music feels like another way of caring. We come with the same spirit we brought to nursing: warmth, kindness, respect, and a real desire to brighten someone’s day.

And it’s not just the residents who enjoy it! We often see staff members pausing in doorways, smiling as they listen, or joining in for a favorite song.

We also love sharing little stories behind the music — where a song came from, why people loved it, or sometimes a surprising verse people haven’t heard in years. Those moments often spark memories, laughter, and conversation.

For us, these songs are more than “old favorites.” They carry humor, tenderness, resilience, romance, and joy — and they give everyone in the room a chance to be present together, even if just for one beautiful hour.
